The platform that started it all: a social network built on the power of voice.

Before Sowt became the Arab world's leading podcast network, it started as something different: a voice-enabled social network where people could share ideas through short audio posts. We built the original platform from scratch across web and mobile, pioneering audio-first social networking in the region.
Audio social networking didn't have a playbook. Sowt's founding vision was a platform where discussion and dialogue happen through voice, not text. The challenge was designing the technical architecture and user experience for something that had no established model to follow.
We researched and selected the technology stack best suited for an audio-centric social network, then focused on building robust audio recording, playback, and social sharing features that work seamlessly across web and mobile. The platform needed to make posting audio as natural as posting text.
Built on CodeIgniter with MongoDB and native Android and iOS apps, the platform features audio recording and playback, social networking capabilities, a SearchAPI-powered discovery layer, and sharing tools designed to make voice content as shareable as text-based social posts.
Sowt's original platform proved that audio-first social networking could work in the Arab world. The platform laid the foundation for what Sowt would eventually become: the region's defining voice in podcasting.
